TM Roh shares design philosophy behind products coming at Galaxy Unpacked

0 69

Galaxy Unpacked is a week away, and Samsung is preparing two new foldable phones, Galaxy Watches, and new tablets for the big event in Seoul. In an invitation to Galaxy Unpacked, the head of Samsung MX and Corporate Design Center, TM Roh, spoke about the company’s approach to designing the upcoming devices.

Next week, TM Roh promises to deliver new Galaxy products built on the same company-wide philosophy Samsung established in 1996: “Inspired by Humans, Creating the Future.”

TM Roh and his design and engineering teams realize that “users value experiences over mere achievements and meaningful connections over raw technological prowess.” With that in mind, Samsung distilled its design philosophy into three identities, “each one with you at the center.”

Essential, Innovative, and Harmonious

According to TM Roh, these are the three keywords at the core of Samsung’s design philosophy for the Galaxy Z Flip 5, the Galaxy Z Fold 5, the Galaxy Tab S9 series, and the Galaxy Watch 6 smartwatches.

The head of Samsung MX explains that an Essential design “prioritizes clarity of purpose and ease of daily use.” At the same time, “Innovative design emphasizes originality, reflecting purpose in a new and distinct way.” And last but not least, a “Harmonious design ensures all elements work together for a holistic purpose, aligning with societal, environmental, and ethical values.”

In more practical terms, TM Roh goes on to mention how the upcoming foldable phones are now more ergonomic, thinner, and lighter than ever. However, he explains that making devices slimmer “demands craftsmanship with passion.” And only “when done well, the benefit to users is huge.”

Samsung also says self-expression reaches new levels through the upcoming Galaxy foldable phones. And the Galaxy Tab S9 and Watch 6 lineups are “designed in the same spirit,” as they work harmoniously with each other and serve as seamless extensions of your needs and personality.

Speaking of environmental values, the company says the upcoming products are designed with sustainability for the future in mind, as “Creating the Future” includes Samsung’s responsibility to “ensure a sustainable tomorrow for the future generation.” Next week, we’ll likely hear more details about how Samsung recycled and upcycled materials to manufacture non-critical components for the upcoming Galaxy phones.

Samsung will host the next Galaxy Unpacked event in Seoul on July 26. You can watch the live stream on the company’s home page or YouTube channel. Fans can already pre-register for the upcoming devices, and should they decide to pre-order one, they’ll get $50 in Samsung Credit.

We’re also giving away a Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Fold 5. So, without further ado, check this link and find out all you need to know to participate in our giveaway.
