Toyota Hyryder SUV’s CNG variant launched; prices start at Rs 13 lakhs

Toyota has launched the CNG variant of its popular Urban Cruiser Hyryder SUV in India, joining the petrol and hybrid options already available. The new variant is priced starting at Rs 13.23 lakh for the S trim and goes up to Rs 15.29 lakh for the G trim. Both trims are only available with a manual transmission.

The new CNG variant is powered by a 1.5-liter K-series engine paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox, delivering a fuel economy of 26.6 km/kg. The Hyryder CNG is only available in mid-spec S and G trim levels, and is the second compact SUV in India to offer factory-fitted CNG after the Maruti Grand Vitara.
CNG is increasingly a tempting option for many customers, who are economy conscious and do not trust the continuous swings in petrol prices in the country. Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest automobile manufacturer, has introduced several CNG variants as has Hyundai, the second largest. Some manufacturers, such as Tata and Mahindra, while offering CNG variants on some models have mostly thrown in their weight behind pure electric vehicles with an eye on the long term future. CNG, however, is a quick and straightforward choice for the Maruti Toyota alliance.
The Hyryder CNG packs features such as 17-inch alloys, a 9-inch Smart Playcast Touchscreen Audio, 6 airbags, Cruise Control, and Toyota’s i-Connect technology, making it a popular choice among Indian customers. Toyota’s launch of the Hyryder CNG is a step towards promoting sustainable mobility solutions and achieving a “Carbon Neutral Society”.
The Hyryder CNG faces only one direct competitor, the Grand Vitara, and competes with the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq, VW Taigun, and MG Astor in petrol avatar. Bookings for the Hyryder CNG have already begun online and at Toyota dealerships nationwide.
