Unsighted dev announces stylish 3D Metroidvania, Abyss X Zero

0 25

Studio Pixel Punk, the developer behind the gorgeous and unique Unsighted, has revealed its next game, Abyss X Zero, a sleek 3D Metroidvania. While it’s still in early development, the initial trailer shows off a stunning world rendered with beautifully pixellated graphics and precision combat that looks both fast-paced and satisfying.

With a focus on a 3D perspective instead of the previous game’s 2D approach, Abyss X Zero presents players with an expansive world to explore as two different characters, Codename A and Codename Z. Each has their own combat abilities impacting the flow of battle and how they’ll interact with the environment.

The twist is that these characters are fated to battle each other, meaning you’re going to be repeatedly fighting against a very familiar foe.

Abyss X Zero is still a way off, but you can support it right now with a wishlist

Not only do the protagonists look sensational, but the bosses are all larger than life in some way. The hulking brute with multiple eyes looks like a boss that’ll be nigh impossible to hit, as it seems to always spot where you’re coming from. Though my favorite reveal has to be the city-sized machination one of the characters dodge on their motorcycle. The way its fists or foundations pummel the ground in an attempt to smash the tiny warrior reminds me of Gol-Iath from Titan Souls or the Divine Beasts in Breath of the Wild.

It’s too early to gauge what the world of Abyss X Zero will look like or how exactly the tropes of the Metroidvania genre will be employed. Studio Pixel Punk is a two-person team revealing details as they’re ready, so we won’t know more until those details are set in stone.

If you enjoyed Unsighted or think this looks like a pixellated powerhouse with potential, then there’s a way you can support it. Tiani Pixel, one half of Studio Pixel Punk, asked for anyone who wants to help Abyss X Zero out this early on to head to its Steam page and Wishlist it. The number of Wishlists a game has can impact talks with investors or publishers and really does go a long way, especially for indie developers.
