In a major development, the Uttar Pradesh government, led by Chief Secretary DS Mishra, has given the green signal for a game-changing Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor.
This ambitious 72km corridor, with an estimated cost of Rs 1,600 crore, will seamlessly connect Ghaziabad’s 17km priority section to the upcoming Noida International Airport in Jewar.
During a high-profile meeting chaired by Chief Secretary DS Mishra on Monday, the project received official approval, marking a significant step towards enhancing connectivity in the National Capital Region (NCR). The state government has entrusted the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) with the responsibility of crafting a detailed project report (DPR) within the next two months.
New RRTS Route: List of Stops
The newly approved RRTS route, spanning 72km, will extend from Ghaziabad station to Jewar’s Noida airport, passing through key areas like Greater Noida West, Surajpur, and Ecotech Pari Chowk. This transformative corridor is set to link Noida airport with prominent NCR towns, including Greater Noida, Ghaziabad, Meerut, and Delhi.
Funding Breakdown and Project Dynamics
Officials revealed that the Uttar Pradesh government is committed to contributing 50 percent of the project’s funds, with an additional 20 percent allocated from the Central government. The remaining 30 percent will be shared by the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (Yeida) and the Greater Noida Authority, showcasing a collaborative effort to propel this mega project forward.
Ghaziabad-Jewar Route Takes the Lead
During a pivotal meeting, Mishra steered focus towards the Ghaziabad-Jewar via Greater Noida West route. An undisclosed official confirmed the dismissal of alternative routes, solidifying the approval for this corridor. With expectations set for an operational debut by 2030, pending seamless execution, this decision marks a monumental leap in regional connectivity.
Delhi-Meerut RRTS Priority Section Now Operational
Meanwhile, the Delhi-Meerut RRTS achieved a significant milestone with the operational launch of its 17km priority section. Commencing service in October, this segment encompassing five stations—Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Duhai, and Duhai Depot—signals the inception of an expansive 82km corridor uniting Delhi, Ghaziabad, and Meerut, slated for completion by 2025.
