0 24

What would you imagine when we say the name BMW 650i? You would most likely think of a two-door sports car equipped with a massive roaring V8 engine. Now, what if we tell you that a person from Gujarat has fitted this unique sports car with a CNG kit? Well, most likely you’d say that we have lost our minds. However, we assure you that this CNG-powered V8 BMW 650i does, in fact, exist, and recently, a video of it has been shared on the internet.

BMW 650i with CNG Kit

This video of the most unique car to be fitted with a CNG kit has been shared on YouTube by Sai Fuel Vadodara on their page. It starts with the presenter mentioning that he has come all the way to Surat, Gujarat, to show India’s only BMW 650i coupe fitted with a CNG kit.

Following the brief introduction, the presenter starts by showing the interior of the blue-colored BMW 650i. It can be noted that the car’s interior is finished in tan leather and looks beautiful with the complementing blue exterior. Soon after this, he shows the main highlight of this particular car’s interior, which is the CNG button and fuel gauge positioned on the lower right side of the footwell near the bonnet release latch.

Moving on, the presenter mentions that currently, the vehicle is running low on CNG gas because of which it is beeping and glowing red. Following this, he goes outside and shows the engine after opening the bonnet latch. It can be observed that because of the huge plastic engine cover, it is hard to tell if it has been given a CNG kit or not.

However, soon after this, the presenter removes the engine cover and reveals the two CNG rails with 4 injectors on each side as it has a massive V8 engine. He mentions that the car has been given a CNG kit sold by Zavoli. He then shows the new ECU and the CNG pressure gauge. The presenter states that it comes with two filling nozzles, one in the front and one in the rear.

Following the engine bay of the BMW 650i, he moves to the rear and opens the boot door to show the CNG gas cylinder. He states that the kit has been fitted by Maruti Auto Gas in Surat. It gets a 12 kg cylinder which can hold around 8 kgs of CNG gas. It can be observed that even with the massive, it has a decent amount of space. The presenter then shows the nozzle to fill the cylinder.

Driving impressions

Moving on, he then closes the engine bay and rear boot and asks his friend to rev the car to hear the V8 engine come to life. It can be noted that despite CNG, the car sounds throaty with its exhaust system and quad exhaust tips.

After this, he takes the seat inside the BMW 650i and takes the car for a spin to give his driving impressions. He states that the car is currently running low on gas so he then shuts off the car and starts it again to circumvent the beeping. He then drives the car for a short distance and mentions that there is no difference in ride and there are no error codes on the dashboard.

Originally, this BMW 650i, which was once priced at around Rs 1.1 crore, came with a 4.8-liter V8 petrol engine. This engine made around 362 bhp and 489 Nm of torque. It could do a sprint of 0-100 kmph in just 5.5 seconds.

This is not the first time a German luxury car has been fitted with a CNG kit in India. Back in November of last year, we shared a video of a Mercedes-Benz C-Class fitted with a CNG kit. The C-Class in the video came with a 2.5-litre V6 petrol engine that can generate 204 PS and 245 Nm of peak torque. It gets a gas refilling valve, reducer, pressure gauge, ECU for the newly installed CNG system, and high-pressure pipes to carry the gas. More on it here.
