Vampire Weekend to Livestream Solar Eclipse Show for New Album

0 13

The band’s midday set on April 8 — coinciding with the astronomical event — will broadcast live on Veeps

To celebrate the 2024 total eclipse — and the release of their new album, Only God Was Above Us — Vampire Weekend will play a special midday show in Austin, Texas, which will also be available to livestream.

The gig will take place April 8 (three days after the album’s release) at the Moody Amphitheater in Austin, which is directly in the path of the total eclipse. To coincide with the astronomical event, Vampire Weekend will start playing at 12 p.m. CT, with the eclipse expected to reach totality around 1:36 p.m., bringing full darkness for a couple of minutes in the middle of the day.

For those that can’t make it to Austin, the total eclipse show will be streamed live on Veeps. Digital tickets will be free, while the show will also be available for Veeps All Access subscribers. And for those unable to login to watch the show in the middle of a Monday (or for those experiencing the eclipse outside), Vampire Weekend’s concert will be available to stream on Veeps for one year after.

Following the Austin gig, Vampire Weekend will play a couple of festival dates in New Orleans and Salt Lake City before kicking off a proper tour in support of Only God Was Above Us June 6 in Houston. The run will continue all the way through October, concluding with a return to Austin, Oct. 17, with a show at the Moody Center. Some of the artists who will support them include Turnstiles (a Billy Joel tribute band, not the Baltimore hardcore group), the English Beat, Cults, Christone “Kingfish” Ingram, Ra Ra Riot, and Mark Ronson.

Only God Was Above Us marks Vampire Weekend’s first album since 2019’s Father of the Bride. The band has shared a handful of tracks from the album, including “Classical,” “Gen-X Cops,” and “Capricorn.”
