Watch Bad Bunny Talk Meaning Behind His Name on ‘Carpool Karaoke’
James Corden is set to leave his Late Late Show for good later this year, but not before he had Bad Bunny join him for Carpool Karaoke.
During the car ride, the Puerto Rican superstar started by discussing why he uses the stage name Bad Bunny in lieu of his real name, Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio.
“My first concept of the artist I wanted to be was this kind of artist that don’t [reveal] his identity. I wanted to use a bunny mask,” he told Corden. “I never wanted to be so famous. But then I just went with the flow,” he added, saying that “a bad bunny, no matter how bad, is still looking cute.”
Corden then played Bad Bunny’s collab with Jhay Cortez, “Dakiti,” before discussing how Bad Bunny was almost late to the Grammys, which he opened. He blamed Los Angeles traffic, telling Corden that he was “freaking out” and “sweating.”
The pair then performed Cardi B’s “I Like It,” which features Bunny and J Balvin, followed by Ariana Grande and Zedd’s 2014 song “Break Free.” Bad Bunny commented on how Grande’s song is “the English song that I most know the lyrics.”
Corden also asked the singer about his love for the WWE, to which he said, “I’ve loved wrestling ever since I was a kid. In my songs, I have a lot of wrestling references. WWE said, ‘Whoa, this guy is a fan of us, so we should do something with him,’ so they asked, ‘Do you want to be a referee?’ I said, ‘I want to fight.’ [They said,] ‘Really? He’s sure?’ Yeah, I want to fight. I want to be in the ring for real.”
He also talked about the time he actually appeared in the square circle. “I was [scared.] I really was. … But I think that [was] the best day of my life,” he said.
The pair also stopped for a wrestling lesson with WWE pro Rey Mysterio, before getting back into the car to sing Harry Styles’ “As It Was.”
