With an old-school ladder-on-frame construction and four-wheel-drive layout, the Mahindra Scorpio-N has arrived as a unique offering in the segment crowded with front-wheel drive monocoque SUVs. While the Scorpio-N is offered with a rear-wheel-drive configuration as standard across the lineup, it is also available with a four-wheel-drive layout in some of the diesel variants. In the top-spec versions, the Mahindra Scorpio-N comes equipped with a new-gen 4XPLOR system to tackle the worst of the terrains. In a Youtube video uploaded by Express Drives, we can a Mahindra Scorpio-N wading through bumper-deep water without breaking a sweat. The video shows how the Scorpio-N is passing through the water with no difficulties or breakdown. The water level is up to the front bumper of the Scorpio-N, but thanks to the high water wading capacity of 500mm, which is more than all the other SUVs in its price range, the vehicle crosses effortlessly.
The Mahindra Scorpio-N arrived in June 2022, and since then, it has broken the benchmarks and records in its price range. Unlike other midsize SUVs priced below the Rs 25 lakh mark, the Mahindra Scorpio-N gets a ladder-on-frame chassis and options of rear-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive, which makes it a unique proposition in its category. With this old-school combination, the Scorpio-N has become the new favourite of those buyers who are looking for a practical SUV which is fun to take off the road as well.

As said above, the higher variants of the Mahindra Scorpio-N feature Mahindra’s new 4XPLOR four-wheel-drive system. This new system is exclusively available only with the manual and automatic versions of the diesel-powered variants. The 4XPLOR system combines the traditional aspects of a four-wheel-drive system, such as mechanical locking differentials, low range gearbox and brake locking with four new terrains modes, which can be toggled between using a rotary dial in the lower centre console. The four terrain modes of the 4XPLOR system are Rock, Sand, Mud and Snow.
The 4XPLOR system is offered only with the diesel-powered iteration of the higher variants of the Mahindra Scorpio-N, which have a 2.2-litre four-cylinder diesel engine under their hoods. With the 6-speed manual gearbox option, this engine produces 175 PS of maximum power and 370 Nm of maximum torque. However, with the 6-speed automatic gearbox option, this engine produces a higher torque output of 400 Nm, while keeping the maximum power output the same at 175 PS.
