Watch U2’s 2024 Grammys Performance from the Las Vegas Sphere – The Hollywood Reporter

0 25

U2 hit the 2024 Grammys stage Sunday night for what producers called a history-making performance.

The Irish rock group performed “Atomic City” from the Sphere in Las Vegas, marking the first-ever broadcast performance from the new venue. Introducing the band, Grammys host Trevor Noah noted it was the first time that TV cameras had been allowed inside the new venue, located at the Venetian Resort.

The band hit the stage for a lively performance that included flashing, multicolored lights and also made use of the 160,000-square-foot wraparound interior LED display at the Sphere.

After their performance, U2 frontman Bono remotely presented the Grammy for best pop vocal album to Taylor Swift for Midnights. (Swift also took the opportunity to announce her new album.)

U2 opened the Sphere in September with a record-setting performance, U2:UV Achtung Baby Live at Sphere. The Sphere, built for an estimated $2.3 billion, stands at 336 feet tall and 516 feet wide, making it the largest spherical structure in the world. It also boasts sound system with roughly 1,600 loudspeakers.

U2 last performed at the Grammys six years ago, first with Kendrick Lamar and later on a barge in New York with the Statue of Liberty seen in the background.

The group has won a total of 22 Grammys. According to the Recording Academy, U2 is the only group to win album of the year category twice, first in 1987 for The Joshua Tree and again in 2005 for How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb.

Other performers at the 66th annual Grammy Awards on Sunday include Billy Joel, Miley Cyrus, U2, Burna Boy, Luke Combs, Billie Eilish, Dua Lipa, Olivia Rodrigo, Joni Mitchelle and Travis Scott, among others.

The 2024 Grammys are airing live on CBS and  streaming on Paramount+ from Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, with Trevor Noah as host for the fourth consecutive year.
