We Get A Glimpse Of Google Assistant And Discover On The Pixel Tablet
So far, the upcoming Pixel Tablet seems like it’s going to be a nice device. We know that it’s going to have tablet-optimized software straight from Google, and now we have a glimpse of that. Thanks to 9To5Google, we know how the Google Assistant and Discover feed will look on the Pixel Tablet.
In case you don’t know, Google is working on an in-house-made tablet. The Pixel Tablet is expected to use the second-generation Google Tensor Chip and it’ll come with Android 13 out of the box. This means that the software will be optimized for tablets.
The main feature of this tablet is the ability to dock it to have it become a smart display. So, it’ll basically become a Nest Hub display. At this point, we don’t know how much this tablet will cost or when it will launch. We’re just going to have to wait for more information to come out.
Here’s how the Google Assistant and Discover feed will look on the Pixel Tablet
This information comes from an APK deep-dive, so you’ll want to take this with a grain of salt. This was all spotted in the latest version of the Google app on Android. Developers sometimes put code for future projects inside the current versions of their apps. This means that it could change or be taken out by the time the tablet launches. Just keep that in mind.
First, we see a screenshot of Google Assistant. On the Pixel Tablet, the Google Assistant bar will stretch to run the full width of a tablet screen. Also, when you make a search query, you’ll see the results pop up on a small window on the right side of the screen.
This means that the answers won’t take up the full screen as it does on phones. You will be able to continue using the app you’re currently using uninterrupted.
As for the Google Discover feed, there’s a welcome change. Instead of having one column of news articles, you’ll have two. This is a much better use of space. Looking at the screenshots, it looks like Google could have added a third column, but two columns are still a step in the right direction
