For years, apps like Instagram and WhatsApp have ruined our images and videos with low resolution. Many people have a habit of capturing images directly using such apps, and then they’re left with memories that have low resolution. However, WhatsApp is now taking a step in the right direction.

WhatsApp’s HD image feature brings up to 11MP images on Android devices

WhatsApp is testing a feature that lets users select a higher resolution to send images. This feature is available in the beta version (2.23.12.13) of WhatsApp, and selecting the HD option on the top of the image brings the resolution to 4,096 x 2,692 (11MP) instead of the standard quality’s 1,600 x 1,052 pixels resolution (1.6MP). That’s higher than the 4K resolution (3,840 x 2,160 pixels) used on TVs and high-end monitors and laptops.

With this feature, it will take more time and higher data to send images, but at least users now have the option to send high-quality images. Hopefully, WhatsApp will bring a similar higher resolution setting for videos. A similar feature is coming to iPhones as well. However, selecting the HD option chooses the 4,032 x 2,268 pixels resolution (9.1MP). This is a slightly lower resolution than Android’s 11MP resolution for higher-quality images.

Since the feature is already available to those who have access to the beta version of WhatsApp, it could soon be released in stable form for everyone to install. Expect this new feature to go live within the next few weeks.
