This is a pretty notable change to the WhatsApp app. Currently, the Android app has a tabbed view with all of the important UI components up top. That wouldn’t have been much of an issue a few years ago, but smartphone screens are getting bigger and bigger as the years go on. Specifically, they’re getting taller and more slender. Reaching the top of your phone is just not possible sometimes.
So, it’s great that WhatsApp is bringing the Bottom bar to its app. This new change was spotted in the WhatsApp beta with version number 2.23.11.6. When you open the app (via Android Police), you’ll see buttons for your chats, communities, status, and calls at the bottom of the screen. Other UI components like the search button, camera, and three-dot menu are still at the top.
This feature has already landed on iOS, so people on Android have been missing out. However, WhatsApp is in the process of rolling it out widely. So, you’ll want to keep an eye out for the update.
In order to check and see if you have the update, go to the Google Play Store and search for WhatsApp. You can also do this through the app info screen. Look for the green update button at the top of the interface. If it’s not there, then you may just want to wait a couple of days for the update to reach you.
