With the increased use of dashboard cameras, we get to see different perspectives of various different accidents. Here is one that happened some time ago and it shows why slow-moving vehicles are so dangerous on the highways. This is the reason why expressways do not allow slow-moving vehicles.
The video recorded by the dashboard camera of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno shows a relatively empty highway somewhere in Tamil Nadu. As the Maruti Suzuki Baleno is moving ahead at a decent speed on its right-most lane, the driver spots an autorickshaw.

Instead of slowing down, the driver starts to drift towards the left so that it can overtake the autorickshaw and continue. However, the autorickshaw also starts to go to its left. The Maruti Suzuki Baleno driver could not find any way to go ahead and hits the rear of the autorickshaw.
The crash caused a man to fall out of the rickshaw. While a number of ladies sitting in the rear of the autorickshaw hit the bonnet of the Baleno. No one got any serious injuries in this accident.

While the primary responsibility for causing this accident lies with the autorickshaw driver who changed lanes without checking the mirrors, the driver of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno also tried to overtake from the left side of the autorickshaw. Generally, such autorickshaws do not budge even after honking and maybe that’s why the driver of the Baleno decided to overtake from the left. However, both of them share equal responsibility for this crash.
As a general guideline, it is advisable to overtake vehicles from the right side. Additionally, it is important to avoid entering the blind spots of other vehicles. Trucks, in particular, have significant blind spot areas, and the area of limited visibility for truck drivers is larger on their left side. When overtaking, it is recommended to use the right lane.
