Why Samsung is your passion: Dave loves the customer service!

We’re starting off strong with one of our loyal readers Dave who has been a Samsung fan and customer for nearly a decade.

Q: So Dave, tell us why you love Samsung?

A: I love Samsung because it has been a very trusted brand for me over the past years. Whenever I’ve had a problem with one of their mobile devices or appliances, the customer service has always been fast and great. It also feels like Samsung listens to its customers more than other manufacturers, it values openness and interconnectivity more than its rivals like Apple, that prefer a more of a walled garden approach.

Q: What new product would you like to see from Samsung in the near future?

A: Samsung has shown a very strong innovative streak in the past few years, particularly with all of the work that it has done for foldables. I’d like for them to continue this and bring us a new foldable phone in the mid-range segment, one that’s preferably priced at $500.

Q: Has Samsung’s marketing ever made you purchase its products?

A: I bought the Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy S21 FE only because I was completely sold on them by Samsung’s marketing. I think Samsung did a great job of highlighting their capabilities, so much so that I felt that I absolutely needed to buy these products.

Q: Of all the different Galaxy devices, what’s your most favorite and why?

A: I think my most favorite Galaxy devices are the Galaxy Z Fold 4, Galaxy Watch 5, Galaxy Buds 2 Pro and Galaxy Tab S8. I’m also looking forward to the new foldables and the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra, they seem to have the potential to become my new favorites.

Q: What’s one Galaxy device you want to buy but don’t?

A: I want to buy the Galaxy S23 Ultra or Galaxy Fold 5 but I feel I need a bit convinced about their capabilities. I did do a hands-on with the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and it felt strange at first but at the same time I also felt like, “OMG so cool, I can draw on a 7.6-inch phone with the S Pen!” I love the idea of the Fold series and just hope that its demo stations were a bit more engaging to really convince me to vote with my wallet.

Q: What’s your wishlist for the perfect Galaxy device?

A: My wishlist for a perfect device, let’s assume it’s the Galaxy Z Fold 6, includes bigger screens, a periscope camera, a a bigger main sensor (50mp 1/1,12 inch), faster charging (65w or 80w) and S Pen slot. I’d also prefer a more capable One UI variant that has additional features that extract maximum value from the form factor.

Q: What’s your biggest issue with Galaxy devices?

A: For me, its the price. I feel that the price increase for Europe in general has been considerable, so much so that even buying the devices several months after launch doesn’t get you the kind of discount it once did. For example, I bought the 44mm Galaxy Watch 5 after 11 months of its launch for $161 and at the launch it was priced $320 dollars.

Q: Where do you think Samsung is lacking compared to its rivals?

A: I feel Samsung is still lacking in terms of the software. I’d hope to see better animations in One UI and new features. I also feel that Samsung needs to increase the charging speeds considerably. There’s also room for improvements in the hardware side of the cameras, particularly the sensor sizes.

Q: What new gadgets would you like to see from Samsung?

A: A foldable tablet is something that I’d be very excited to see, one that’s possibly at 18-inches screen size, as I feel that would be a very potent product that has usability across consumer and enterprise segments.

Q: How do you think Samsung can improve its ecosystem?

A: Samsung’s ecosystem is already quite good in my opinion, however, I think some features need to be made more explicit and promoted better. These include the likes of Object Eraser, Camera Assistant, Expert RAW, Hyperlapse, and Nightography. It feels like Samsung doesn’t talk about them much, even though they significantly impact the overall user experience.
