Reports have suggested foldable smartphones are becoming more popular among customers and more OEMs are foraying into the segment. While Chinese smartphone companies like Oppo, Vivo and Tecno are also entering the foldable segment with new offerings, the domain is led by Samsung for some time now.

Oppo and Vivo recently launched their clamshell foldable smartphones to take on Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip devices. The Oppo Find N2 Flip is available in India while the Vivo X Flip is currently exclusive to China. If the reports are to be believed, Xiaomi is now ready to jump into the fray.

Rumours suggest that Xiaomi is planning to enter the flip foldable smartphone market. According to a post shared by tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo (spotted by PhoneArena), Xiaomi is also developing its Samsung Galaxy Z Flip series rival.

However, the tipster didn’t say anything on whether the company’s first-ever clamshell foldable will be available in markets outside China. It is also important to note that this won’t be the first foldable phone from the company. The report claims that Xiaomi has already started working on its third-generation book-style folding phone.

The report notes that Xiaomi’s flip-foldable phone won’t be as bulky as its rival Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 or Motorola Razr 2022. The rumoured device is expected to be “extremely light and thin.”

The tipster also mentioned that the rumoured Xiaomi foldable is likely to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset.
