Young Thug’s Nephew Arrested for Allegedly Fatally Shooting Girlfriend

A Georgia man who was recently arrested for allegedly fatally shooting his girlfriend is a nephew of Young Thug, reports revealed this week.

As first covered by TMZ and later by several regional outlets, Fardereen Deonta Grier was arrested this week when local police responded to a call in the East Point area. Citing a spokesperson with the East Point Police Department, TMZ said Grier was in tears at the time of officers’ arrival. A woman identified as his girlfriend, Destiny Fitzpatrick, is said to have already been dead at the time.

Local media including CBS 46 had previously reported on the shooting, although names were not included in initial coverage. Grier is said to have offered up the fact that he was the son of Young Thug’s oldest sister, which a source later confirmed to TMZ.

While Grier is claimed to have initially told police he was fighting off two armed intruders at the time of the fatal shooting, he allegedly later confessed. Multiple reports list Grier as having ultimately been arrested and charged with murder.

When reached by Complex for additional comment on Friday, an East Point Police Department rep said they had “no additional information” to share at this time.

Young Thug, meanwhile, was denied bond last month amid a widely criticized RICO case. In a pre-recorded message that aired as part of Hot 97’s Summer Jam, he thanked friends and family for their support and urged them to sign the recently launched Protect Black Art petition.

“This isn’t just about me or YSL,” Thugger said at the time. “I always use my music as a form of artistic expression and now I see that Black artists and rappers don’t have that, you know, freedom. Everybody please sign the Protect Black Art petition and keep praying for us. I love you all.”
