YouTube Music will now auto-download recently played songs on Android

0 33

YouTube Music has got a new feature that will enable users to automatically download recently played songs they played. The feature, which is available on Android, is enabled by default. The feature was spotted by 9to5Google, and a few TOI-Gadgets now team members are able to see it under Settings > Downloads and storage menu. The feature is available for those with a Premium subscription.

As per the description of the feature, it will automatically download up to 200 recently played songs. However, it is to be noted that there is no separate playlist for Recently played songs in the Library tab.

“They presumably appear when you use the ‘Downloads’ app shortcut by long-pressing the home screen icon,” the report said. We checked this by accessing the ‘Downloads’ shortcut menu and we found new songs in the playlist that we never listened to.

This feature was mentioned in YouTube Music’s February 2023 New Features Highlights. It was introduced in mid-January and is making way to a wider audience on Android now. The feature is yet to be announced for YouTube Music on iOS.

How it is different from ‘Smart Downloads’
It is to be noted that the new feature is different from the existing “smart downloads”, which goes up to 500 songs and is based on music that the app deems to be “favourites”.

With this feature, YouTube Music Premium members will be able to listen to music even if they are not connected to the internet or want to save on data. ‘Smart downloads’ feature works in addition to music that users have already selected to download, which means that this feature will not remove any of the already downloaded content.

How ‘Create a Radio’ feature works
YouTube Music recently announced the ‘Create a radio’ feature on both Android and iOS. The feature allows users to create a personalised radio station based on a selected song or artist. It is available to both free and premium users of YouTube Music.
