Apple launched the third generation Apple Pencil for iPads in October. The latest Apple Pencil supports USB-C charging and is now available for customers. The Cupertino-based tech giant has now rolled out the first-ever firmware update for the Apple Pencil 3. Apple hasn’t shared the release notes for the latest update (firmware version number 10M5164). So, there is no confirmation about what features, fixes, or updates might be included in the updated firmware. A user named Aaron also took to the social media platform X to confirm the same.

Apple does not have an established procedure for updating Apple Pencil hardware. However, to install latest firmware update on the USB-C Apple Pencil, users will have to connect the device to an iPad with a USB-C cable and power on the tablet. Doing this, the Apple Pencil 3 will be able to download the latest software.
Apple Pencil 3: Key features
The USB-C Apple Pencil has a similar design to its predecessor, the Apple Pencil 2. However, the latest model is shorter and has a hidden USB-C port for charging and pairing. Apple Pencil 3 doesn’t support wirelessly charging capability. Moreover, the new model also lacks some of the features, like pressure sensitivity and magnetic charging which are available with the more expensive Apple Pencil models.
