Over the last few years, we have seen numerous electric scooters from various EV two-wheeler manufacturers catching fire on public roads. Of these automakers, the Bengaluru-based automaker Ather Energy has seen some of the lowest incidents. However, the company is not immune to electrical fires, and recently, a video showing at least four Ather Energy scooters involved in a fire inside a transport truck has been shared online. In the video, it can be noted that four scooters on the top section of the truck were burning, while four on the bottom section were safe.

The video of the Ather Energy scooters on fire inside a truck has been shared on X by Ather Energy Parody on their page. The post has been shared with a caption stating, “Ather Electric scooters caught fire during. It’s concerning that Ather Electric faces issues almost every day #ather #atherelectric @atherenergy.” As mentioned, it can be noted that four of the Ather Energy scooters were on fire on the top section of a transport truck. The video has been recorded by a passerby who, along with a number of other people, was standing at a distance from the truck.

What caused this fire of Ather Energy scooters?

At the moment, there has been no official statement made by Ather Energy explaining the cause of the fire inside this transport truck. However, some reports have stated that the truck driver touched a live electricity wire road, which might have caused an electrical short-circuit resulting in the fire. But this is just speculation, and we will have to wait for an official statement from the Bengaluru-based EV automaker.

Back in 2022, another incident of an Ather Energy electric scooter catching on fire was shared on the internet. It was reported that this scooter caught fire inside an Ather dealership in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The company issued a statement which explained the entire situation. The company stated that a customer brought his scooter to the service centre. The scooter was covered with a lot of dust and mud, so a high-pressure wash was performed. Removing the dust and mud was important so that the service on the scooter could be performed easily.

Following this, the team at the service centre was removing the body panels when they discovered a crack in the top casing of the battery pack. The company added that this crack could have been developed because of an accident in which the scooter might have been involved. After this, the water seeped into the battery from the crack when the scooter was being washed.

It was added that because of this, the fire was inevitable. The company added that the scooter was isolated and no other scooter at the dealership suffered any damage. Ather Energy emphasized that all of their batteries are IP67 rated which means that no water can get inside for at least 30 minutes. However, because of the crack, the battery pack lost its IP67 rating and the water could get inside.
