India is facing scorching summer heat this year. People often find unique ways to beat the heat. This time, a driver decided to grow a mini garden on his auto-rickshaw’s roof to beat summer. Because of this, he has gotten quite famous as his auto-rickshaw turns a lot of heads on the road. People even stop him to click selfies

According to him, the passengers always get happy when they see the plants on the roof. The passengers say that the plants work as a natural air conditioner. He can be seen watering the plants too. The driver says that he got this idea around 2 years ago when it was the peak of the summer season.

He thought because of this heat, he can grow some plants on the roof of the auto-rickshaw. He says that since he has grown these plants, his auto-rickshaw stays cool and his passengers say the same too. He has grown 20 varieties which include crops, shrubs and flowers. He even planted lettuce, tomato, and millets on his roof.

So, how did he do it? The driver says that he first put a thick durrie on the roof then he sprinkled some soil on it so that it become nutritious for the plants. Then he planted the plants and started watering them. Slowly, the plants started to grow and flourish.

What is happening here is that the plants, the durrie and the water does not let the sunlight reach the roof of the auto-rickshaw. Because of this, the roof does not get heated and the interior of the auto-rickshaw stays cool as compared to the temperature on the outside. This is not it, he has also installed two fans and two mini-coolers inside the cabin. However, the plants on the rooftop must have added weight would affect the airflow and decrease fuel efficiency.

How to keep your car cool during summer time?

Using window blinds

Window blinds are one of the easiest and cheapest solutions through which you can keep your car relatively cool. Whenever you are parking the vehicle, cover your windows with sunblinds. What this will do is reduce the amount of sun’s heat that is able to reach the cabin. You can buy vehicle-specific sunblinds or generic ones. Sunblinds are a much better solution instead of sun films because films are banned in many states.

Park the vehicle in shade

When you are parking the vehicle, try to find a parking space in a shady area. It could be under a tree or by the side of a building. What this will do is that sunlight will not be able to directly hit the vehicle.  Thus, keeping it relatively cool.

Cover the interior

Another hack you can do is cover the steering wheel, dashboard and the seats with a sheet or a towel. Because of this, the cloth will become hot and the thing behind it will still be relatively less hot.
