Axon 30S is coming on September 26 with an under display camera

Xiaomi already confirmed that the Civi 2 will have a pill-shaped cutout for its two selfie cameras, the Redmi K60 will probably get a Dynamic Island style notification system, Realme seems interested in that as well. If you’re cringing at the idea of Android makers rushing to imitate Apple’s new design, ZTE has the perfect antidote.

The company will unveil the ZTE Axon 30S on September 26 (Monday) and it will have an under display camera. Check this out – no punch hole, pill-shaped or otherwise, no notch, just screen.

The phone will measure 7.8mm thick and will weigh 192g, according to another official teaser. The post on Weibo tries to sell that as thin and light, but that is only half true.

Also, we’re not entirely sure why ZTE is going back to the Axon 30 series (the last of which launched last year) when the Axon 40 series is already here. Maybe this will be a refreshed version of the Axon 30 5G (also with an UD camera).

Possible Axon 30S details on TENAA (ZTE 9042N)

The Axon 30S may have gone through TENAA, which revealed a smaller 6.67” display (AMOLED, FHD+), the Axon 30 5G had a hulking 6.92” display. The battery will have a larger capacity of 4,430mAh (up from 4,200mAh). The 30 5G was a hair lighter at 189g, which is weird considering its size.

Anyway, the camera setup may be simplified to 64MP main, 5MP macro and 2MP depth (omitting the 8MP ultra wide). The selfie camera will have 16MP resolution. That is if the ZTE 9042N is indeed the Axon 30S, of course.

Note that this device appears to be unrelated to the Axon 40 SE/Blade V40S, even though that one will have an under display camera as well.
