Tata Punch EV is the latest electric vehicle to roll out of Tata’s stable. Unlike other electric cars from Tata, the Punch EV is based on an all-new “acti.ev” born-electric platform. However, it looks like even the new micro electric SUV is not niggle-free. Here we have a video that has recently surfaced online that shows a customer facing issues with the gear selector knob on his new Punch EV. The frustrated customer has posted the video online and has now asked Tata to either replace the vehicle or refund the amount that he paid for the vehicle.

The customer wrote, “Experiencing major issues with my new Tata Punch EV gear selector failure in traffic, and electric motor engaging despite brake applied. Safety concerns are a top priority! The customer in this two-part video shows how the gear selector on his electric car refuses to go from Neutral to Drive mode. Tata, in almost all their electric vehicles, offers a rotary-style knob as gear selector. While it does feel premium, it is not the most responsive unit available in the market. There have been several cases in the past where people have complained about the same. The knob refuses to respond if you move the knob too fast. In this case, the customer mentions that he faced this issue when he was on the road.
The other issue that the customer was facing with the car was that of the electric motor. He shows in the first video that the car was moving and even after he applied the brakes, the connection to the electric motor was not disconnected. The motor was still putting pressure on the wheels and that was visible in the instrument cluster.

The touchscreen infotainment on the car has also stopped responding. We also found a comment under the video where the customer said that Tata Motors has agreed to replace the car but, even the new car that he got has the same issue. The Tata Punch EV generates 122 Ps and 190 Nm of peak torque. Punch EV is available in Smart, Smart Plus, Adventure, Empowered, and Empowered Plus variants. The Standard Range version is available with all the variants, while the Long Range version is available only with Adventure and Empowered Plus variants.
