Cars and SUVs unveiled on Day 1 of the Indian Auto Expo 2023 at Greater Noida off Delhi
Following the three-year hiatus, the Auto Expo has made a comeback and it has brought along with it a number of new vehicles from a multitude of different automakers from the country. The first day of the event was filled with numerous launches and unveils and if you want to have a quick look at what took place at the first day of the 2023 Auto Expo, then read on.
Maruti Suzuki
Concept eVX
Maruti Suzuki commenced the Auto Expo 2023 by unveiling the brand’s first all-electric mid-size SUV concept eVX. The 4.3m-long eVX concept, which is based on an exclusive EV architecture is being developed in collaboration with Toyota, and has a 60kWh battery and a 550km-plus range.
Brezza CNG

Maruti Suzuki also took the sheets off of the CNG iteration of its highly popular subcompact SUV Brezza. The 1.5-liter K15C DualJet engine that powers the Ertiga CNG is anticipated to also power the Brezza CNG. The SUV is anticipated to provide an automatic transmission option in addition to a manual, making it the first CNG-powered vehicle in India to do so.
Tata Motors
Tata Harrier EV concept
Tata surpirsed a tonne of enthusisats after unveiling the Harrier EV concept on the Day 1 of Auto Expo 2023. The Harrier EV, which was displayed in a nearly finished form, and reportedly will hit the market in 2024. Tata did say that the Harrier EV will have a dual-motor layout and an all-wheel drive system, however, further details are still being kept under wraps.
Tata Sierra EV concept
The country’s largest electric carmaker Tata Motors also revealed the Sierra EV concept, which is scheduled to go on sale in 2025. This iteration of the Sierra EV has five doors, in contrast to the concept that was displayed at Auto Expo 2020, and it appeared to be nearly ready for production.
Tata Curvv SUV coupe concept
Another major highlight at the Tata pavilion was the Curvv SUV coupe concept in a nearly production-ready state. In contrast to the EV engine that was displayed in the Curvv concept previously, the Curvv SUV coupe will go on sale the following year and is anticipated to have a turbo-petrol powerplant. It will rival the likes of the Creta, Seltos, Grand Vitara and Urban Cruiser Hyryder.
Tata Punch CNG, Altroz CNG
The iCNG variants of the Punch SUV and Altroz hatchback were also on exhibit at the Tata booth. While specifics haven’t been verified, it’s safe to assume that both vehicles will be propelled by the same 1.2-liter, three-cylinder Revotron petrol engine used in the Tiago and Tigor CNG variants.
Tata Altroz Racer
To rival the likes of the newly launched Hyundai i20 N-Line, Tata’s premium hatchback Altroz’s Racer iteration was displayed at the Auto Expo 2023 day 1 at the Tata booth, with contrasting black and red highlights. The Nexon 1.2-liter three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine with 120 horsepower and a 6-speed manual transmission powers the Altroz Racer.
Hyundai India
Ioniq 5
The South Korean automaker Hyundai unveiled the much anticipated Ioniq 5 EV, offering the first 500 buyers the vehicle for an introductory price of Rs 44.95 lakh (ex-showroom). It gets a 217 horsepower electric motor, a 72.6 kWh battery, and an ARAI-certified range of 631 kilometres.
Ioniq 6
The Hyundai Ioniq 6 electric vehicle was also on display at the Auto Expo. Based on the company’s E-GMP skateboard platform, it has a drag coefficient of just 0.21 and a curved, aerodynamic design. The Ioniq 6 is available in dual-motor and single-motor configurations, and there are two battery pack sizes to choose from: a smaller 53kWh pack and a larger 77kWh pack.
Kia India
EV9 EV SUV concept
At the 2023 Auto Expo, the flagship EV9 concept SUV from South Korean automaker Kia was on display. The all-electric SUV, which will go into production by the end of 2023 internationally was unveiled at the show before the new Carnival. The EV9 concept will come equipped with a 77.4kWh battery pack, however, its true range and power statistics have not yet been officially released by Kia.
KA4 (Fourth generation Carnival)
Kia also debuted the brand-new KA4 MPV, popularly known as the Carnival. This fourth-generation luxury MPV boasts an all new exterior looking more like an SUV, two 12.3-inch screens and interior layout, ADAS technology and a ton of more features. It will likely be propelled by the same 2.2-liter, 201-horsepower diesel engine that was used in the previous model.
Carens Ambulance
The company also unveiled a concept of an ambulance at the Auto Expo as well. The interior of the car was completely retrofitted with the essentials needed in an ambulance.
Carens Police Car
Alongside the Carens Ambulance the company also displayed a police iteration of the Carens as well. The car on the exterior boasted some police graphics. The Police Car also had sirens mounted on its roof.
MG India
Hector, Hector Plus
One of the busiest booths at Auto Expo 2023 was the British automaker MG Motor’s, where the automaker unveiled the refreshed Hector and Hector Plus SUVs. The company at the event first started with the price announcements of the vehicles. The all-new Hector will start at Rs. 14.73 lakh and will go all the way up to Rs. 20.80 lakh (ex-showroom), respectively. Both SUVs have an extensively revised appearance, an entirely new interior, and ADAS technologies.
MG 4 electric hatchback
MG also showcased the all-electric MG 4 hatchback at its booth. The MG 4 available in the international markets comes equipped with two battery packs, a smaller 51kWh pack and a larger 64kWh pack, both of which use a single engine and rear-wheel drive. It is built on the modular scalable architecture of parent company SAIC. On the WLTP cycle, MG states that the smaller battery pack has a range of up to 350 km and the bigger one has a range of 452 km.
MG 5 electric station wagon
The company also displayed the MG 5 electric estate at its booth in addition to the MG 4 electric hatchback. The estate in the international markets comes outfitted by MG with a front-mounted electric motor that produces 156 horsepower and 256 Nm and a 61.1kWh battery that has a stated range of 402 kilometres.
eMG6 plug-in hybrid sedan
A plug-in hybrid sedan was also unveiled at the 2023 Auto Expo by the British motoring marque. The 1.5-liter, four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine is paired with an electric motor to produce a combined output of 305 horsepower and 480 Nm of peak torque for the car internationally.
MG eHS plug-in hybrid SUV
The MG eHS plug-in hybrid SUV was another model that was showcased by MG at its booth. The eHS has a 1.5-liter turbo-petrol engine that generates 160 horsepower and 250 pound-feet of torque. This engine pairs with a 120-horsepower electric motor to provide a total 254 horsepower.
MG Marvel R SUV
The all-electric Marvel R SUV was also featured at the MG booth. It has two engine options, a dual-motor, rear-wheel-drive arrangement that produces 178 horsepower and 410 Nm of torque and a tri-motor setup that increases output to 285 horsepower and 664 Nm of torque. It is sold as the Roewe Marvel-R in European countries.
Mifa 9 electric MPV
Lastly MG also displayed the all-electric Mifa 9 MPV. The Mifa 9, which is larger than the Kia Carnival and is offered in other countries under the Maxus name, has a combined WLTP-certified range of up to 440 km, a 245 hp electric engine, and a 90 kWh battery.
BYD India
Seal electric sedan
The Chinese EV manufacturer Build Your Dreams also introduced its newest offfering the Seal electric sedan. The vehicle, which will go on sale in India by the fourth quarter of 2023. Internationally it competes with vehicles like the Tesla Model 3. The Seal offers choices for both single-motor and dual-motor powertrains, as well as two battery packs: a 61.4kWh unit with a stated range of 550 km and an 82.5kWh unit (700km claimed range).
Toyota
bZ4X electric SUV
The bZ4X, Toyota’s first battery-electric SUV in production, was also on exhibit at the company’s Auto Expo 2023 booth. It is available in two variations overseas: a front-wheel-drive single-motor version and a four-wheel-drive dual-motor version. The 71.4kWh battery it contains ensures a WLTP range of around 450km.
Land Cruiser LC300
The company most expensive offering the big boy Land Cruiser LC300 was also on display at the Auto Expo 2023. This behemoth of an SUV will be powered a 3.3-litre V6 turbo diesel engine and it will be mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission.
Hilux Off-road concept
The company also displayed a fully custom built Hilux pick up truck. The SUV was decked up with every essential off-road equipment and was displayed in an extremely unique display at the show. It will not be on sale in the country it was exhibited as a concept.
Lexus
LM 300h
The luxury arm of the Toyota Motor Corporation Lexus also displayed its LM 300h, which is essentially Lexus’ take on the Toyota Vellfire, at Auto Expo 2023 before going on sale later this year. The LM 300h has a more opulent interior and Lexus-specific design features like the spindle grille compared to the Vellfire. It has a hybrid powertrain with a pair of electric motors, one for each axle, and a 1.5-liter, 2.5-liter Atkinson cycle gasoline engine that produces 150 horsepower.
RX SUV
The new RX SUV was also exhibited at the Lexus booth. The RX will be sold in two versions—RX 350h Luxury and RX 500h F Sport Performance—before the end of March 2023 in India. The hybrid SUV that competes with the Mercedes-Benz GLE is already accepting reservations.
Lexus LF-30, LF-Z electric concepts
At its booth at Auto Expo 2023, Lexus also displayed two concept vehicles, the LF-30 and LF-Z electric vehicles. Both the LF-30 Electrified and the LF-Z Electrified are equipped with all-wheel drive systems, however the former has a dual-motor setup and the latter has four in-wheel motors.
