Twitter was the talk of the town over the weekend. The company made it mandatory for people to login to an account to access tweets and then introduced a reading limit. Both the moves have received a lot of flak but Elon Musk, who was a subject of memes on the microblogging platform, got surprise support from his long-standing critic Jack Dorsey.

Twitter co-founder has a positive reaction to the viewing limits on tweets imposed by Musk. The former CEO Jack Dorsey said that running Twitter is a difficult task and said that the team is working their best under immense constraints.

“Running Twitter is hard. I don’t wish that stress upon anyone. I trust that the team is doing their best under the constraints they have, which are immense,” he tweeted.

He also said that it was easy to critique a decision from afar.

“It’s easy to critique the decisions from afar…which I’m guilty of…but I know the goal is to see Twitter thrive. It will,” he added.

Dorsey further hoped that Twitter builds censorship-resistant open protocols like Bitcoin and Nostr.

“And I do hope they consider building on truly censorship-resistant open protocols like bitcoin and nostr to help ease that burden. Good for all, and critical to preserve the open internet,” he said in a separate tweet.

Musk on Saturday announced that Twitter will temporarily limit the number of tweets users can read per day. He said that verified accounts will be limited to reading 6000 posts per day, unverified ones can read 600 posts per day and new unverified accounts only 300 per day.

He noted that the limit has been introduced to address extreme levels of data scraping and system manipulation by companies that are developing generative AI platforms.

He later announced that the limits will be increased to 8000 for verified, 800 for unverified and 400 for new unverified. On July 2, Musk announced an increase for the second time saying the cap is now 10,000 for verified, 1000 for unverified and 500 for new unverified accounts.
