Facebook parent Meta says Avatars are getting more details: What’s new

0 31

Meta launched more expressive, customisable and diverse Avatars in 2021 and since then, the Facebook parent company has been bringing changes to the digital version of users. In the latest development, the social media company has announced that it is introducing new body shapes and improved hair as well as clothing textures that will enable users to customise their Meta Avatars to represent themselves in even greater detail.

“Today, we’re announcing some improvements to Meta Avatars that will help freshen up your look just in time for spring. We’re adding a handful of new avatar body shapes to help you better express yourself,” the company said in a blog post.

What’s new in Meta Avatars?
Meta said that it is bringing new body shapes, clothes and hair textures. The company is also partnering with PUMA to offer seven of the brand’s outfits to upgrade Avatars’ look. The accessories will be available from May 1.

“We’re adding a bit more sparkle to your eyes, brushing some volume into your hair and making clothes look more realistic and textured. You’ll see these changes when you use your avatar outside of virtual reality (VR),” the company said.

New body shapes: Meta said that the new body shape options have been created as a good jumping-off point when we launched this iteration of avatars back in 2021. Users will be able to choose from a wider range of body shape options, including two curvier body shapes.

“Self-expression and representation matter — it’s what makes your avatar feel like you — and we’ll continue adding more options over time, working toward a future where everyone can create an avatar they love,” it said.

Hair and clothing textures: Meta also brought an overhaul in avatar’s hair, clothing and eyes. There are essentially additional details and realism to both hair and clothing. Meta also tweaked the lighting model to add a little more of a reflective gleam to avatars’ eyes.

One billion avatars: On his Instagram channel, company CEO Mark Zuckerberg said that more than one billion avatars have been created across Meta apps, which include Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp.
