Former English cricketer Andrew Flintoff hospitalized after major car crash
While many of you might have stopped following BBC Top Gear after the original trio of presenters left a few years ago, the show is still very much alive and kicking. In fact, former cricketing legend Andrew “Friddie” Flintoff is the current host of the show. Sadly, after an accident on the sets of Top Gear, Andrew Flintoff had to be airlifted to a hospital.
The 45-year old Top Gear presenter was involved in an accident 0n Tuesday morning while filing for a Top Gear episode. The incident happened at the test track at Dunsfold Aerodrome in Surrey. The injuries suffered by the former cricketer are not considered as “life-threatening” and a BBC spokesperson said that the progream will share further details “in due course”.

While the exact details of the accident remain unknown, it is known that the accident did not happen at high speed. A BBC spokesperson confirmed, “Friddie was injured in an accident at the Top Gear test track this morning – with crew medics attenting the scene immediately. He has been taken to hospital for further treatment and we will confirm more details in due course.”
An official BBC statement said, “Our primary concern is and has been for the welfare of Freddie – as well as the Top Gear team. All health and safety procedures were followed on site and the incident is now being fully investigated, in line with standard policy and practice.”
Comedian Jason Manford, who appeared with Flintoff in the show told BBC Breakfast that he did not know the “ins and outs” of he accident, but said he was “thankful it is not life-threatning and he can get over the injuries that he has”.
Back in 2019, Flintoff was involved in a similar car crash while shooting for Top Gear. However, he endured the crash and walked away without any injuries. He said at that time, “I go to great lengths to make sure I do well in Top Gear drag races but, on this occasion, I went a few lengths too far. It will look more ridiculous than dangerous when you see it on TV,”
Richard Hammond almost died while filming for Top Gear
Back in 2006, popular presenter Richard Hammond nearly lost hi slife in a crash while filming for the show at York’s Elvington airfield. The 52-year old was driving a Vampire jet car, which could travel at speeds of 370 mph. One of the tyres blew up while Hammond was doing 320 mph. The presenter was cut free from the mangled remains using hydraulic shears before being airlifted to the hospital. Hammond spent two weeks in Coma.
In 2017, Hammond was involved in another high-speed crash in the Rimac electric supercar prototype. It came right after a pretty bad motorcycle crash in Mozambique, Africa.
