Google has ‘good news’ for Steam gamers on Chromebook

has rolled out the latest update for its ChromeOS software widely. Chrome OS 119 update will make it easier for Chromebook users to play games on Steam. With this update, Chromebook users will be able to play Steam games straight from their app drawer. Previously, users needed to own a compatible Chromebook and enable a flag to access Steam games. Now, the latest update this is set to change.

Chromebook users who haven’t received the update yet can manually install it themselves. For this, users have to check the settings to see if the latest update is available for them or not.

How to access Steam games on ChromeOS

After installing the ChromeOS 119 update, users will be able to find a new Steam icon in their app drawer. Clicking on the icon will open to install the full version of the app. Offering a quick shortcut to the Steam installer and not the complete app can be a nice move for Google as not all Chromebook users are interested in playing Steam games on their laptops.

Other features coming to ChromeOS

Apart from allowing easy access for users to play Steam games on a Chromebook, the ChromeOS 119 update is also adding some improvements to the Privacy Hub. These new changes will allow users to toggle both camera and mic on and off directly from the hub.

Last month, Google launched a new category of Chromebooks with the Chromebook Plus branding. According to the tech giant, all ChromeOS laptops in this lineup will meet a set of hardware specifications defined by the company.

These requirements include an Intel Core i3 12th Gen (or above) or AMD Ryzen 3 7000 series (or above) processors, at least 8GB RAM and 128GB storage, a display with IPS technology and Full HD resolution (or better), and a web camera with a resolution of 1080p (or higher) with Temporal Noise Reduction.
