Google Lens  has introduced an enhanced capability to assist in identifying specific medical conditions. By using the phone’s camera to capture images of skin rashes or irritations, Google Lens can now analyze and determine potential conditions affecting the skin. This feature functions similarly to the existing image recognition feature on Google Lens, where users can also choose an image from their photo gallery to utilize the new skin condition detection functionality.

As mentioned in a recent blog post on Keyword, the latest skin condition detection feature in Google Lens enables users to identify moles or rashes on their skin without the need to provide any textual description. This functionality is activated by capturing an image within the Google Lens app or selecting an image from the device’s gallery.

Upon capturing or selecting an image, users can swipe up to view a horizontal row of search results displaying the names of various skin conditions. Additionally, there is a scrollable section available below the results that presents visually similar images for further reference.

Although the skin condition detection feature in Google Lens relies on Google’s proficient image recognition technology and is not intended as a substitute for professional medical diagnosis, it can provide initial insights into the nature of skin issues before consulting a dermatologist.

Primarily focused on identifying skin conditions, the feature is also capable of recognizing other ailments such as “a lip bump, a nail line, or hair loss.”

Furthermore, according to the aforementioned blog post by Google, in addition to the recent health-related enhancements, the Google Lens app offers a range of other functionalities. These include assisting with math homework, facilitating product matching during shopping, finding similar dishes at local eateries, and even translating menus, signs, and posters into over 100 languages.

Google has also recently revealed plans to integrate Google Lens into Google Bard, enabling users to include images when composing a Bard prompt. This integration aims to enhance the comprehension of user queries by Google’s AI chatbot. Additionally, users will have the option to utilize the “Google it” button to switch to the renowned Google search engine, where they can explore visually similar products from online sellers, as stated by Google.
