Google Pixel 7 is the ‘least repairable smartphone’, report claims

According to a new report by the Electronics Hub, the Pixel 7 is the “least repairable smartphone”. This does sound pretty bad, but you do need to get the whole story before making assumptions.

After analyzing over 200 phones, a company found out the Pixel 7 is the least repairable one

Electronics Hub conducted a study in which the company reviewed the repair guides on iFixit.com for 200+ different smartphone models. The company analyzed the average repair time, difficulty level, and number of steps required to repair a phone.

Based on those findings, the Google Pixel 7 is the hardest phone to fix, while the Motorola Moto G7 is the easiest. The Pixel 7 takes the longest time to repair. It comes down to an average of 60.3 minutes. On the flip side, the Motorola Moto G7 can be repaired in only 25 minutes (on average).

The company did note that Apple models “outnumber other brands in our ranking of the easiest phones to fix yourself”. ASUS smartphones are the easiest to repair overall, while Sony’s are the most difficult, the source claims.

The company also found out that the Galaxy Note 10, iPhone SE (3rd gen), Redmi Note 7, Xiaomi Mi 9, and Huawei P30 Pro are quite difficult to fix. All of those devices take over 50 minutes to fix, on average.

The Moto G7 is the easiest handset to repair based on this analysis

When it comes to the easiest phones to fix, the Moto G7 is far ahead. It is followed by the Galaxy A40, Galaxy S22 Ultra, iPhone 11 Pro Max, iPhone 13, POCO M3, and the OnePlus Nord 2 5G. Do note that the POCO M3 can be fixed faster than the Galaxy S22 Ultra, for example, but when the company took everything into consideration, the Galaxy S22 Ultra is easier to fix.

Everything may become more clear if you check out the graph below, as it shows a rather lengthy list. One thing to note is that Electronics Hub checked out 200+ repair guides on iFixit, so it’s limited by those. Fairphone devices are extremely easy to fix, so we’re sure they’d be at the top of the list if considered. What I’m trying to say, this study does not have info on all phones, of course. In any case, if you’d like to check out the full study, click here.
