Gunbarrel Brewing, which built up a strong local following after it opened in 2017, said Thursday that it will close its doors for good at the end of the day Sunday.

Founded originally by Marie and Jamie Fox, the 20,000-square-foot brewery specialized in hazy IPAs, but it also made and served dozens of other styles, some of which it canned and distributed.

“We are very sad to inform you that due to circumstances outside of our control, Gunbarrel Brewing Company will be closing its doors,” Marie Fox wrote on Facebook. “Seeing such an extraordinary expression of creative craft beer and community come to an end is disappointing and difficult. Rather than reflect upon this sadness, we look forward to the future with hope and gratitude for this experience and all of you.”

“It has been our absolute pleasure to serve you these past five years. You have welcomed us into the community with open arms. You have enjoyed our beers and provided us with feedback that helped us improve our craft. You shared a piece of your life with us, and in turn allowed us to share our lives with you,” she added.

In January, Ska Street Brewstillery, which opened just a few hours before all bars and restaurants were close on March 17, 2020, in the face of the pandemic, closed its doors. Durango-based Ska Brewing, which owns the Boulder outpost, has said it could reopen the venue in another form.
