Tata Punch EV to get rear disc brakes and electronic gear selector

The Tata Punch EV has been under speculation for a long time as the micro-SUV is based on Tata’s ALFA platform which is a hybrid chassis that could host a traditional ICE powertrain as well as an electric powertrain. The Tata Punch EV was confirmed in December 2022 in a statement by top executive Vivek Srivatsa of Tata Passenger and Electric Mobility.

The new EV has now been spotted camouflaged on a flatbed in Lonavla, Maharastra (via: TeamBHP). The vehicle which was spotted can be identified to be the electric version of the Tata Punch micro-SUV as the vehicle can be seen to be devoid of a tailpipe. The Punch EV also gets rear disc brakes which are not available on the outgoing ICE-powered car.

The vehicle was also spotted in another unspecified location where the interiors of the EV could be seen. The Tata Punch EV interiors resemble the ICE-powered version albeit with a blue accent to signify its electric credentials. Other noticeable changes include a Nexon EV-like electronic gear selector and an electronic parking brake.

The powertrain details of the Tata Punch EV are currently unknown. However, Tata Motors is likely to use its tried and tested Ziptron powertrain to propel the Tata Punch EV. The EV could deliver a 300km range. The Tata Punch EV will slot in between the Tata Tiago EV and Tata Nexon EV in the company’s lineup and could be priced around the Rs 9.5 lakh to Rs 10.5 lakh mark.
