How Apple is bringing gamers on Mac

0 45

During Apple‘s WWDC keynote address on Monday, the company placed a significant emphasis on video games on Macs, introducing a new gaming mode and a special guest.

The new mode, called Game Mode, will be available on macOS 14 Sonoma, the latest operating system for Apple’s desktops and MacBooks. Game Mode prioritizes CPU and GPU performance while gaming. Further, the gaming mode ought to reduce controller and speaker latency by doubling the Bluetooth sampling rate.

“We think users are going to love macOS Sonoma and the new ways it enables them to personalize with widgets and stunning new screen savers, see new levels of gaming performance,” said Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering.

At the keynote, the renowned game designer Hideo Kojima made a surprise appearance. He expressed his admiration for Mac computers and announced that one of his most popular games, Death Stranding: Director’s Cut, will be available on Macs. Though we do not have an exact date, Kojima said that the game will be made available later this year. Kojima also mentioned that his studio is currently developing upcoming titles that will be released on Apple’s platform.

Apple also introduced a new Game Porting toolkit for developers, making porting games from other platforms easier. So, we can expect more AAA titles to arrive on Mac.

Recently, No Man’s Sky also made it to Mac, available on Steam with new features like Cross-Platform Play and Cross-Platform Save. It has been optimized for Macs with MetalFX upscaling and full controller support. The game can be downloaded for free by those who already own it. Intel-based Macs require a minimum of Intel i5-based Mac, Radeon Pro 570X 4GB Graphics Card, and 20 GB of storage.

Another popular title to arrive on the Mac is the cat survival game, Stray. Though we do not have a release date or price, it will be available for all the Apple Silicon-powered Macs this year.

Moreover, some other well-liked games including Resident Evil: Village, Hades, and Disco Elysium also arrived on Mac in the last few years.
