The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted cyclone Mocha is set to make landfall in the states of West Bengal and Odisha this week. The Indian weather department further said that a low-pressure area has already formed over the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining the South Andaman Sea. Odisha, West Bengal, Kerala and Andaman have been put on high alert. IMD has issued heavy rain alerts for many places in these regions.

“The low pressure area over Southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining South Andaman Sea has become a Well Marked Low Pressure Area over the same region at 0530 IST today, the 9th May 2023. It is very likely to intensify into a depression by today evening over the same region and into a cyclonic storm over southeast BoB and adjoining areas of East Central BoB and Andaman Sea on 10th May. It is likely to move initially N-northwestwards till 12th May morning. Thereafter, to recurve gradually and move N-northeastwards towards Bangladesh-Myanmar coasts,” said IMD in a tweet
