How to watch live stream of India’s third lunar landing mission

0 52

Chandrayaan-3 is a planned, third lunar exploration mission by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). It will consist of a lander and a rover similar to Chandrayaan-2, but would not have an orbiter. Its propulsion module has a Spectro-polarimetry of Habitable Planet Earth (SHAPE) payload to study the spectral and Polari metric measurements of Earth from the lunar orbit. The lander is named Vikram, after Vikram Sarabhai, the father of the Indian space program.

Chandrayaan-3: Live streaming details
The Indian Space Research Organisation will be launching the Chandrayaan-3 from the spaceport in Sriharikota at 2.35 pm today (July 14). Chandrayaan-3 launch will be live streamed on ISRO’s official YouTube channel. The link of the same has been attached below. It will be onboard the GSLV-Mk3 or LVM3 and if everything goes as planned, Vikram (lander) will land on the Moon on August 23 or 24. A successful launch would make India only the fourth country to achieve the feat after the United States, China and the former Soviet Union.

S Somanath, Isro chairman, said, “If the launch takes place on that day [July 14], we’ll reach the Moon by the end of August. Landing will be on August 23 or 24 as we want the landing to happen when the Sun rises on the Moon so we get 14-15 [Earth] days to work. If landing cannot happen on these two dates, we’ll wait for another month and land in September.”

The mission objectives of Chandrayaan-3 are:

  • To demonstrate Safe and Soft Landing on Lunar Surface
  • To demonstrate Rover roving on the moon and
  • To conduct in-situ scientific experiments.

Notably, Chandrayaan-3 is a historic mission for India, as it will be the first for a country to attempt to soft land a lander and rover on the lunar surface twice. The mission is also significant as it will help India to gain more experience in lunar exploration.
