iPhone 15 Pro’s USB-C charging port may also work with 4K monitors

At this event, the Cupertino-based tech giant is expected to make several announcements about its upcoming hardware and software developments. The company is also expected to launch its next iPhone series in September. The rumour mill related to the iPhone 15 lineup has already churned out several speculations about the upcoming smartphones. All the models in the iPhone 15 series are expected to come with Apple’s USB-C charging port. However, the charging port that will be shipped with the Pro models is expected to do more than just charging. A Twitter post shared by a user named analyst941 claims that the USB-C ports in iPhone 15 Pro models will even work with 4K monitors.

Rumours suggest that iPhone 15’s USB-C ports will offer faster data speeds. Now, the latest tweet claims that the Pro models in the iPhone 15 series will be Thunderbolt 3 ports. The tweet reads: “The port on Pro’s will be Thunderbolt 3. I know there’s a lot of speculation in our community, but it’s TB3. This Twitter user also predicted Dynamic Island ahead of the iPhone 14 Pro launch in 2022.

iPhone 15 USB-C charging port: Expected features
Thunderbolt 3 can offer speeds of up to 40 gigabits per second (Gbps), which is equivalent to 5,000 megabytes per second (MBps). To compare, the speed offered by the Lighting port currently available on all iPhone models is limited to USB 2.0 speeds. This means the Lighting can transfer data at a speed of 480 megabits per second which is equivalent to 0.48 Gbps or 60 MBps. If the rumours are to be true, the data transfer speeds in iPhones will increase drastically.

The above-mentioned tweet also claims that the new port will also be able to output to monitors at up to 4K. The post also mentions that iOS 17 will come with “special Thunderbolt 4 features” that are expected to leverage this ability.

The Twitter thread also explains how it will work: “For example, a new cinematography feature that will allow live 4K Thunderbolt outputs to monitors while recording. Essentially, you’ll have the phone with all the camera controls, connected to a monitor displaying live 4K camera footage without any controls; in 16:9.”
