iPhone 15 series to feature upgraded UWB chip for better Apple Vision Pro AR headset integration

iPhone 15 upgraded UWB chip

Apple launched the Vision Pro headset at WWDC earlier this month. Just like other Apple devices, the Vision Pro is also part of Apple’s ecosystem. But for a better and experience, the company plans to ‘aggressively’ upgrade the hardware in other devices, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. Among these, the key hardware that will help ensure seamless connectivity with the Vision Pro and other Apple devices is connectivity through Wi-Fi and UWB.

Starting with the iPhone 15, Apple plans to upgrade the ultrawide band chip by moving the production process to 7nm from 16nm. This will result in better performance and it will also help reduce power consumption when connected with nearby devices. Apple’s UWB chip is the U1 chip which is available in iPhone 11 and later, and it’s used to connect with other devices more seamlessly.

When Apple previewed the Vision Pro, it focused on how the headset integrates with all your other Apple devices. An upgraded UWB chip to ensure better connectivity makes sense since the Vision Pro would heavily rely on seamless connectivity with other Apple devices. This isn’t confirmed yet but Kuo has a good track record of Apple updates so it’s most likely accurate. Also, the Vision Pro will be commercially available only next year and that too in the US first then other markets.

Kuo also shared an update on the iPhone 16 saying that it will come with Wi-Fi 7 which is also in line with Apple’s plans for a better ecosystem experience.
