Madonna intubated in ICU after being found ‘unresponsive’: report

Madonna is reportedly recovering from a bacterial infection that was so serious that she became “unresponsive” and needed to be rushed to a New York City hospital and intubated in the intensive care unit.

Page Six is reporting that the 64-year-old pop icon was found “unresponsive” in her New York City home Saturday. After being rushed to the hospital, she needed to be intubated for at least one night to help with her breathing. The tube has since been removed and she is “alert and recovering,” Page Six said.

Madonna’s longtime manager, Guy Oseary, confirmed on Instagram Wednesday that she suffered a medical crisis due to “a serious bacterial infection.”

Oseary didn’t specify the cause of the infection, but said Madonna ended up staying several days in the ICU. People can get bacterial infections from a number of sources: food poisoning, skin, ear or sinus infections, bacterial pneumonia or from certain sexually transmitted diseases, according to the Cleveland Clinic. Bug bites and surgical wounds also can become infected.

Many bacterial infections are not serious and can be treated with antibiotics, the Cleveland Clinic said on its website. However, any bacterial infection that gets deep into the body, as in the blood, heart, lungs or brain, can be life-threatening, the clinic said.

A source told Page Six that the “Material Girl” singer is “out of the ICU,” while Oseary said in his post: “She is still under medical care. A full recovery is expected.” A source told Page Six that her daughter, Lourdes Leon, was by her side throughout her ordeal.

But the singer’s medical crisis has forced her to pause the start of her Celebration World Tour, according to Oseary’s statement. The tour was set to kick off July 15 in Vancouver, Canada.

“At this time we will need to pause all commitments, which includes the tour,” his statement said.

The 43-city global tour, which includes Oct. 4 and 5 dates at the Chase Center in San Francisco, was scheduled to last through the beginning of next year and will highlight “her unmatched catalog of music from the past 40-plus years,” Variety reported.
