M&M aims to be the first globally to integrate these advanced chipsets.

Mahindra and Mahindra is in the process of developing a cutting-edge electric vehicle with advanced features. At its Mahindra Research Valley in Chennai, the company is constructing a ‘born electric platform’ with robust cloud connectivity utilizing 5G and an ethernet backbone, reported the Times of India (TOI).

R Velusamy, President of Automotive Technology and Product Development at M&M, highlighted that the computing strength of this new architecture would be five times more powerful than existing technologies.

This electric vehicle will incorporate Level 2 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System), featuring EyeQ6 chipsets from Mobileye—an upgrade from the EyeQ4 utilized in the company’s internal combustion vehicles. M&M aims to be the first globally to integrate these advanced chipsets.

Noteworthy functionalities include the ability to autonomously park, facilitated by five radars and 11 sensors. Additionally, the vehicle’s software can be upgraded seamlessly without requiring a visit to the dealership, thanks to a smart controller with a built-in buffer.

One of the groundbreaking aspects of the Mahindra BEV is its capability to sense and respond to the driver’s mood. Equipped with sensors and radars, the car can identify up to five different moods. For instance, it can play uplifting songs or share jokes if the driver is feeling down, and tailor its responses based on the driver’s emotional state.

Importantly, safety features are a priority in this development. The vehicle’s sensors can detect signs of impairment due to intoxication or fatigue, prompting measures such as slowing down the vehicle, providing alerts, displaying coffee symbols in the infotainment system, and monitoring the steering angle. The technology extends to monitoring the movement of the driver’s leg on the accelerator.

Furthermore, the system tracks the movement of the driver’s and co-driver’s eyeballs to determine if they are focused on driving or distracted. If the hands are not on the steering wheel, the sensors will alert the driver. In the event of unusual incidents inside the vehicle, such as a potential break-in, presence of a weapon, or suspicious behavior, the sensors will promptly detect and alert the occupants.

Velusamy emphasized that the vehicle, built on a born-electric platform, will prioritize the battery pack, situated at the floor. Utilizing Lithium Ferrous Phosphate (LFP) technology, the battery is lightweight and prioritizes safety, even though it has lower power density compared to NMC. This strategic choice aligns with the company’s commitment to delivering an electric vehicle that combines advanced features with enhanced safety measures.

According to the TOI report, the EV will have 16 Harman speakers with AR Rahman creating vehicle sounds compared to 12 of XUV700.
