The Maruti Grand Vitara 7-Seater will compete with the Hyundai Alcazar and Tata Safari, among others.

Maruti Suzuki’s Grand Vitara has quickly emerged as a standout model in the compact Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) segment, outselling the Tata Nexon, Hyundai Creta, and Kia Seltos.

The company is now preparing to introduce a 7-seater variant of this popular SUV, known as the Y17 render. According to Hindustan Times, this model is expected to hit the market by 2025 and may come in both 6- and 7-seat configurations.

The Maruti Suzuki Y17, created by SRK Design, is similar to the current model but has a longer appearance. Its unique design consists of a black hexagonal grille section, a thick chrome bar with Suzuki badges, vertical LED fog lamps, sharp triple-beam LED headlamps, a wider lower air intake, and a muscular bonnet. The Grand Vitara’s current wheelbase length is 2,600mm, and its side profile features large wheels with a new design.

In order to meet the growing demand for environmentally friendly mobility solutions, this three-row variant is anticipated to be equipped with both mild hybrid and powerful hybrid engines.

The company’s current 1.5-litre four-cylinder K15C mild hybrid petrol and 1.5-litre three-cylinder strong hybrid petrol engines will likely be found in the seven-seater Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara (Y17), which is expected to be the first to be released. The Grand Vitara’s current model sold 6,988 units as of December 2023.

For the base and mid-spec models, a petrol K15C Dual Jet Dual VVT Smart Hybrid engine is expected, while a more potent hybrid engine from Toyota might be installed in the top-end trims. Interestingly, the 7-seat Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara Urban Cruiser will be based on the Toyota Highrider, its sibling.

When the Y17 hits the Indian market, it will be Maruti’s biggest ICE SUV, and it will probably cost more than Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom). It will go up against the likes of the Hyundai Alcazar, Mahindra XUV700, Citroen C3 Aircross, Tata Safari, MG Hector Plus, and the soon-to-be-launched Renault Duster.

The Grand Vitara’s growth is anticipated to provide customers with a flexible and roomy choice in the competitive small SUV market as Maruti Suzuki enters the 7-seater SUV segment.
