The first-ever all-electric product from India’s largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, the concept eVX, will be launched in India by FY2024, as confirmed by the automaker. The new electric SUV from Maruti will take on the Hyundai Creta EV, among other compact SUVs. The company unveiled the first-ever concept eVX at this year’s Auto Expo, showcasing a futuristic design aimed at displaying the brand’s commitment to sustainable motoring.

The concept vehicle showcased at the Auto Expo was a brand-new car with a stunning coupe-like SUV style that Maruti Suzuki has never exhibited before. The SUV boasted incredibly modern design features and a dominating height, with dimensions of 4,300mm length, 1,800mm width, and 1,600mm height.

The brand-new Concept eVX features a conventional EV front end with no large grille openings, but instead a simple front end that appears muscular without sharp edges. A gloss black strip connects the futuristic-looking LED headlights in place of the traditional front grille, further enhanced by a V-shaped feature formed by the headlights and four tiny LED DRLs. The Suzuki symbol is displayed on a sizable body-colored bumper located in the middle of the fascia, with a sizable cladding and silver skid plate seen on the bottom bumper, along with two tiny LED DRLs.

On the sides, the eVX has brawny wheel arches housing massive full-faced futuristic-looking wheels, along with black plastic cladding signifying the SUV’s ruggedness. One of the biggest highlights of this SUV is its coupe-like rear end, resembling SUVs of similar caliber such as the Lamborghini Urus. It features a spoiler on top that extends over the aggressively slanted rear windshield, along with distinct LED taillamps connected via a double LED strip, adding to its conceptual theme.

During the unveil at the Auto Expo 2023, the Indo-Japanese automaker stated that the idea behind the entire Concept eVX and its futuristic design elements is to deliver high levels of aerodynamic efficiency by lowering the drag coefficient, distinguishing it as a car with advanced technology. Maruti also revealed that the powertrain specifications for the eVX will be powered by a 60kWh battery pack offering up to 550km of driving range.

The all-electric Hyundai Creta, whose test mule was spotted a few weeks ago, could be another rival of the EVX. Rumors suggest that the Creta EV might retain the battery and motor configurations from the Kona Electric, featuring a 100 kW electric motor and a 39.2 kWh battery pack, resulting in an ARAI-claimed range of over 400 km.

The new Hyundai Creta Electric is expected to make its global debut at the 2025 Auto Expo. Overall, the launch of the Maruti Suzuki Concept eVX in India is eagerly anticipated as it showcases the brand’s commitment to sustainable and futuristic motoring. It will be interesting to see how it competes with other electric SUVs in the Indian market.
