Mercedes-Benz luxury sedan & UP Roadways bus crash in Greater Noida, NCR leaves 12 injured

An accident on the Yamuna Expressway in Greater Noida has left 12 people injured. The incident occurred yesterday when a Uttar Pradesh Roadways bus carrying passengers collided with a Mercedes-Benz luxury car in Greater Noida. According to reports, the accident happened on Thursday afternoon. The bus was travelling with passengers from Agra to Delhi’s Sarai Kale Khan, while the Mercedes-Benz was headed to a factory in Phase 2, Greater Noida.

It is suspected that the driver of the Mercedes-Benz, Raghav Gupta, was travelling to his factory in Phase 2 and had overtaken a vehicle when he failed to see the fence of a flyover in front of him. To avoid crashing into the fence, Gupta applied brakes. However, the UP Roadways bus was right behind the car and the driver had no time or space to maneuver the bus to another lane or slow down. As a result, the bus collided with the car from the rear and dragged it. The collision caused the car to crash into the railing of the flyover and fall off the road. The bus also crashed into the railing, and its chassis was mangled. Pictures available online show the bus resting on the railing.

At least 12 people, including both drivers, were injured in the accident. Both drivers were rushed to the nearby Jaypee Hospital, and their condition is stable. Arvind Kumar, ACP -1, Greater Noida, said, “We received a call about the accident at 12:52 pm on Thursday. A team from the Knowledge Park police station rushed to the spot. A Mercedes-Benz had fallen off the railing while the Roadways bus was on top of the railing. Raghav Gupta and bus driver Nisaar Khan, a resident of Agra, were rushed to a hospital. The passengers had minor injuries and left the spot before cops arrived.”

Traffic police in the area cleared the vehicles after the accident to avoid congestion. Within 15-20 minutes, traffic was back to normal in the area. Eyewitnesses report that Gupta had no other choice but to hit the brakes as he could not see the railing on the flyover after overtaking the other vehicle. The police have not received any complaints related to the accident yet.

While driving next to heavy vehicles such as buses or trucks, it is essential to keep a few things in mind. These vehicles require more space to slow down, so maintaining a safe distance is always a good idea if you are driving in front of or behind them. If you plan to overtake, ensure that the driver has seen your vehicle, using pass lights or horns if necessary. Do not slow down or stop immediately after overtaking, as the Mercedes driver did in this case. Also heavy vehicles like these often have large blidspots.
