Meta’s canceled smartwatch leaks alongside detailed specs

0 74

Nearly a year ago to this day we reported on a Meta smartwatch in the works. Тhe wearable (internal code name Milan) was apparently in development for two years before Meta decided to pull the plug earlier this week for reasons that are still unknown. Today, we finally get an actual look at a prototype of the device showcasing its design and dual cameras on its housing.

Meta watch features a removable body that pops out of the watch strap cradle. We can also see two buttons on the case and a total of two cameras. There’s a 5MP front-facing camera part of the screen as a waterdrop notch and a 12MP shooter on the back next to the health sensors. The detachable body and dual cameras would allow users to record photos and videos when they didn’t have their phone on them.

The Watch was supposed to arrive with GPS and cellular and Wi-Fi connectivity, allowing you to use it completely untethered to a phone. In addition, Meta was developing standalone WhatsApp and Instagram stories apps for the watch as well as a Spotify one.

The Meta Watch would also bring activity and health tracking apps, calendar, photo gallery and all the other usual smartwatch apps and settings. Based on the new report, the watch was touted to bring 18 hours of battery life on a single charge. Meta was targeting a launch in Spring 2023 and a $349 sticker price. Despite canceling this particular smartwatch, Meta is still planning to develop other wrist-worn devices in the future.
