Microsoft could launch free, ad-supported Xbox Cloud Gaming plan

Currently, Microsoft offers Xbox Cloud Gaming, the company’s game streaming service, as a part of the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription, which costs $14.99 per month in the US. Well, the tech might be planning on launching an ad-supported plan for Xbox Cloud Gaming, which will allow people to access the game streaming service for free by watching advertisements on the platform.

At the Wells Fargo TMT Summit, Xbox CFO, Tim Stuart, presented a hypothetical scenario where Microsoft would allow people in African and Asian countries to access Xbox Cloud Gaming for free in exchange for ad viewership (via TweakTown). He said: “For models like Africa, or India, Southeast Asia, maybe places that aren’t console-first, you can say, ‘Hey, do you want to watch 30 seconds of an ad and then get two hours of game streaming?’

Tim suggested that this plan would work well in regions where not many people can afford consoles but have access to smartphones. If Microsoft goes ahead with this strategy, it will attract a lot of people to Xbox Cloud Gaming and make the platform immensely popular. Microsoft already offers free game streaming for Fortnite. So, there’s a high chance that the company might go ahead with the ad-supported plan for Xbox Cloud Gaming.
