Microsoft doesn’t want you to use Google’s Bard on Edge browser

How dare you use Google Bard on Edge browser? That is not us saying, but Microsoft‘s browser, Edge, is prompting users to try out its new Bing AI chatbot when visiting Google Bard.

A developer, Vitor de Lucca, recently shared on Twitter that the latest developer version of Microsoft’s Edge browser shows an advertisement for Bing next to the Google Bard URL in the search bar.

If users visit the bard.google.com on Edge browser, they may notice a new animated slide in the upper-right corner of the address bar, promoting Bing’s AI-powered search. The slide then disappears, leaving a Bing icon in its place, which appears redundant as there is already a similar icon on the right side of the address bar by default.

While the icon does not steer users away from Bard, it opens up the Bing chatbot in Edge’s split view, allowing users to compare answers with the Bard.

The prompt is showing up on the latest developer version of Microsoft Edge, available on both Mac (version 114.0.1807.1) and PC.

After dominating the search wars for two decades, Google is currently lagging behind in the AI wars. Microsoft has been arguably compulsive with incorporating AI within its products, while Google is just starting out with its chatbot. Both Bing and Bard work the same way, giving you straight answers based on the information pulled from the internet.

Microsoft is not entirely new to poking Google. The company has been showing a banner at the top of Bing search results for Chrome to users, reading “ “Microsoft Edge is powered by the same open source technology as Google Chrome, providing best in class web and extension compatibility.”
