Motorola has just confirmed that it will release a new Razr foldable phone “very soon.” No time frame or exact release date was confirmed, but judging by the terminology used by the company, the upcoming Motorola Razr could hit the shelves earlier than the Galaxy Z Flip 5.

In an interview at MWC 2023, Lenovo CEO, Yuanqing Yang, said that the reception for the Motorola Razr series “is good.” Lenovo owns Motorola and the new Razr foldable line was revived under this new leadership. (via CNBC)

Regarding the next model, the CEO said “I think it’s much better,” adding that Motorola should release it “very soon.” No other details about pricing or global availability were revealed. However, the CEO hinted at a possible price reduction. “When the technology becomes mature, then the price could go down then you can drive higher volume.”

One of the things the new Razr might do before Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 5 is to introduce a larger cover screen. Both Samsung and Motorola are rumored to want to achieve this for their upcoming flip foldable phones, but the Razr might beat the Flip 5 to the market.

There was also a rumor about Motorola possibly working on two Razr phones for 2023 to give Samsung a run for its money. That might not come to fruition, but only time will tell. As for Samsung, the Korean tech giant might unveil the Galaxy Z Flip 5 in August-September 2023.

The Galaxy Z Flip 5 should have a larger cover screen that should improve usability when the phone is folded shut. The hinge technology could be similar to the Galaxy Z Flip 4’s, even though Samsung might massively improve the hinge on the Galaxy Z Fold 5. Samsung is facing more competition in the foldable phone market, from companies including Tecno and Honor, the latter of which has just entered the global market with a Z Fold competitor priced lower than the Z Fold 4.
