Mozilla Firefox last update for these Windows, macOS versions

If you are a Firefox user on an old Windows or macOS version, it’s time you should move on. Mozilla has announced that it is releasing the last version of Firefox for outdated operating systems.

In January this year, Microsoft ended support for Windows 7 and Windows 8. As a consequence, Firefox is also releasing the last update on Windows 7 and Windows 8.

Similarly, Firefox is getting the last major version that will support Apple macOS Sierra 10.12, macOS High Sierra 10.13, and macOS Mojave 10.14.

“Users will automatically be migrated to the ESR 115 version of Firefox so that they continue to receive important security updates,” it said.

Why is the development important?
With the update cycle ending, using an old version of a web browser can end up breaking compatibility with some websites in the future as they are now adopting new web technologies. However, Mozilla has said that some security patches will still be available for these users.

What’s new in Firefox 115.0
Meanwhile, Mozilla Firefox 115.0 official build gets a notable update marking the new Extended Support Release (ESR) series. The latest version also adds support for migrating payment methods saved in Chrome into Firefox.

For Linux users of Firefox 115.0, the browser brings Intel graphics video decoding which is enabled by default to enable hardware acceleration. Firefox 115 also brings support for Cisco’s OpenH264 plug-in for platforms that lack H.264 video decoding.

Other user-facing features include the additional capability of middle clicks on the mouse. The latest browser now treats middle clicks on the new tab button as opening the clipboard contents. Firefox 115 will also allow undo and redo actions on password fields.

Previously, Mozilla rolled out Total Cookie Protection by default to users worldwide. The feature was released for Windows, Mac, Linux and Android operating systems.
