NHLer denies cheating on ex Tate McRae after rumours at all-star game

Columbus Blue Jackets centre Cole Sillinger is playing defence after an Instagram post claimed that he had cheated on ex-girlfriend Tate McRae.
With pop star McRae shining in the spotlight at NHL all-star weekend, Instagram account ‘blind_ref_logic’ took the opportunity to throw some shade at Sillinger, who still is finding his way in the league.

The post by the meme account featured snapshots of both Sillinger and McRae with text reading: “Step 1: Be Cole Sillinger. Step 2: Date out of your league (literally). Step 3: Cheat on her, jumpstarting her career. Step 4: She gets invited to the NHL All-Star Game before you.”
The post’s caption also took another shot at Sillinger: “Potentially the greatest fumble of a female in human history.”

Sillinger didn’t take kindly to the assertion he had cheated on his ex-girlfriend, replying in the comments “All false my guy.”
While Sillinger justifiably had the weekend off, McRae was a big part of the all-star weekend festivities in Toronto.
The Calgary-based pop star performed during the event and also served as a celebrity captain for Avalanche star Nathan MacKinnon’s team during the draft on Thursday and the game on Saturday.
She was one of four celebrity captains along with Justin Bieber, Michael Buble and Will Arnett.
McRae and Sillinger reportedly began dating in 2021 and went “Instagram official” late in the year. She had previously dated minor hockey league player Jonny Hader.
According to Entertainment Tonight, McRae said that she and Sillinger had a mutual friend and began dating after he reveled that the singer was his “celebrity crush.”

“He’s one of my friend’s friends, so it all worked out,” McRae said. “It was really funny — I was like, ‘I can forever hold this over you till the day you die, that I was your celebrity crush.’”
The pair reportedly broke up in 2023 and Sillinger removed any trace of McRae from his social media.
While Sillinger is trying to find his footing with the struggling Blue Jackets — he has 61 points in 188 career games and is minus-44 — McRae’s star continues to rise.
She reportedly is dating fellow musician The Kid LAROI and the two were spotted in Toronto over the weekend holding hands.
