The government also intends to construct highways on the Golden Quadrilateral that are compatible with electric vehicles.

Adani Total Energies E-Mobility Ltd has received board approval from the Uttar Pradesh Expressway Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) to develop charging infrastructure along four expressways in Uttar Pradesh, marking a significant step towards promoting electric vehicle (EV) adoption.

The expressways industrial authority’s board of directors has approved Adani Group’s and Total Energies’ joint venture proposal to install 26 charging stations along the motorway.

According to an Economic Times (ET) report, the goal of this joint venture is to address the growing demand for convenient and accessible charging stations for electric vehicles, thereby supporting the state’s transition to sustainable transportation solutions. With the rise of EV mobility, there has been a demand for improved EV charging infrastructure.

As part of the approved project, 26 charging stations will be installed alongside important expressways, such as the Gorakhpur Link, Bundelkhand, Purvanchal, and Agra-Lucknow motorways. By placing these charging stations in strategic locations, the state’s overall EV infrastructure network will be improved and electric vehicle users will have seamless access to charging facilities.

The charging services offered by Adani Total Energies E-Mobility Ltd are expected to be reasonably priced, with a per-kWh charge of Rs 9.74. With competitive pricing, electric vehicle owners will not have to bear an excessive financial burden, encouraging the use of these vehicles.

Reports state that Adani Total Energies E-Mobility Ltd was selected over six technically qualified competitors, including industry players such as Tata Power EV Charging Solutions Ltd and Tesco Charger Zone Ltd. Meanwhile the other four included were CASHurDrive Marketing Ltd, Verdemobility India, Servotech Power Systems and Adani Total Energies E Mobility Ltd.

“Among them, the shortlisted company had quoted the lowest average service fees, and its selection would put the least burden on the vehicle owners,” a senior officer from the UPEIDA said as quoted by Times of India.

The decision was made based on several factors, including competitive service fees, which demonstrated the company’s dedication to providing high-quality services at reasonable prices.

The government’s larger initiatives to encourage e-mobility nationwide are in line with the development of EV charging infrastructure. The central government intends to construct 6,000 kilometres of electric vehicle-ready highways on the Golden Quadrilateral over the course of the next seven years, as per an ET report. These e-highways will have infrastructure for green energy-enabled charging, which will hasten the uptake of electric cars and lower vehicle emissions.
