Peso Pluma Is YouTube’s Most-Viewed Artist of 2023 – The Hollywood Reporter

Peso Pluma, the breakthrough singer who has helped push the regional Mexican sound to the top of the pop charts, is YouTube’s most-viewed artist of the year.

Pluma beat out Bad Bunny and Taylor Swift, who ranked fourth and fifth on the U.S. list; rappers YoungBoy Never Broke and Drake came in second and third.

“I feel humble and grateful that my music has made it to the top spot on YouTube. A huge thank you to my musicians and team, my fans, everyone at YouTube and all the people who have made this project possible,” Pluma told THR.

Globally, the 24-year-old performer earned more than 8.5 billion views on YouTube this year. Two of his songs — “Ella Baila Sola” with Eslabón Armado and “La Bebe (Remix)” with Yng Lvcas — ranked third and fourth on YouTube’s U.S. Top 10 songs of 2023 list.

“Ella Baila Sola” marked a major milestone this year. The song that initially went viral on TikTok became the first regional Mexican song to reach the Top 10 in the history of the Billboard Hot 100 chart, peaking at No. 4. The tune spent 19 weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart and is certified 21x-platinum by RIAA, which is equivalent to 1.26 million units in sales and streams. Unfortunately, the track was not submitted to the 2024 Grammy Awards, which will air live Feb. 4.

Pluma still has a chance of winning, though — he is nominated for best música urbana album with this third album, Genesis. His epic year also included eight wins at the Billboard Latin Music Awards in October; he’s launched nine Top 40 hits on the Hot 100 chart and 15 Top 10 hits on the Hot Latin Songs chart, including the No. 1s “Lady Gaga” and “Qlona” with Karol G; he became the first Mexican artist to ever perform at the MTV Video Music Awards in September; and he landed a spot on THR’s Most Powerful Latin Players in Film, TV and Music list.

On YouTube’s weekly U.S. Top Songs chart, Pluma has placed 30 songs throughout the year.

“In 2023, Peso Pluma soared on YouTube, leaving an indelible mark with content that resonated and inspired a generation. A featherweight in name but a heavyweight in impact, Peso Pluma’s journey on YouTube became a testament to the transformative power of authentic storytelling and creative expression,” AJ Ramos, YouTube’s head of artist partnerships, Latin music and culture, told THR. “YouTube continues to serve as a global stage, catapulting local artists into the spotlight and transforming them into international superstars, as the platform’s reach enables unparalleled opportunities for recognition and fan engagement.”

Added George Prajin, Pluma’s manager and CEO of Prajin Records: “Peso Pluma’s YouTube numbers are just a testament to his hard work and incredible dedication to his craft this past year. We couldn’t be more proud and are really excited for the world to see what 2024 has in store.”
