Premium: YouTube tests bigger preview thumbnails for Premium users: How will it work

0 41

YouTube has started testing a few ‘experimental features’ for paid Premium subscribers. The Google-owned video streaming platform has rolled out these features for YouTube Premium subscribers. Based on the feedback from the Premium users, the company will decide if it wants to roll out these features for all users. Apart from options that will stop accidental taps with Lock Screen and a gesture to control video playback speed, YouTube is also testing bigger preview thumbnails for Premium users. The experimental feature will be available for Premium users until August 13.

How will it work
With this feature, YouTube Premium users will be able to see bigger previews while seeking. The company has enlarged the preview thumbnail that users see while moving forward or backwards in a video. The bigger preview will help users to find specific portions of the video that they want to watch. Premium users can currently try out the feature.

YouTube testing other features for Premium users
YouTube is testing a few other ‘experimental features’ for Premium users. One of these features will disable touch input for YouTube Premium users while they are watching a video on Lock Screen. This will stop users from accidentally tapping the screen while playing a video. These accidental taps can “pause, skip or disrupt the video.”

Both Android and iOS users subscribed to YouTube Premium can test the feature until August 5. To enable this feature, users need to select the Lock Screen option from the gear icon menu while watching a video in full-screen mode.

YouTube is also allowing Premium users to control video playback speed with gestures. Non-paid users can also control the video playback speed but that involves multiple steps. The new feature will allow users to long-press anywhere on the screen while watching a video to automatically increase the playback speed to 2x. This feature will also be available for premium users until August 13.
